Apprenticeship Duration

18 – 24 months.

Qualifications and Apprenticeship Components

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (competency) – study in the workplace.
  • Level 2 Technical Certificate (knowledge) – study at college or training centre, usually day
  • Functional Skills Level 1, Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Personal Learning and Thinking

  • Advanced Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship, Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship (various sectors).

Advanced Mechanical Engineering

Typical Job Titles (Craft and Technician)

Skilled Machinist, Tool Maker, Metal Forger, Skilled Sheet Metal Worker, Skilled Fitter, Composite Technician, Pipe Fitter.

Apprenticeship Duration

36 – 48 months.

Qualifications and Apprenticeship Components

  • Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (competency) – study in the workplace.
  • Level 3 or 4 Technical Certificate (knowledge) – study at college or training centre, usually day, block or full time.
  • Functional Skills Level 2, Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Personal Learning and Thinking

Possible  Progression Pathway(s)

  • Higher Apprenticeship in Engineering, HNC, HND or Foundation Degree.
