The HNC course is designed to provide the knowledge and understanding of how advanced and innovative engineering underpins the mechanical industries.
Candidates applying for this course will need a relevant Level 3 qualification, which would usually be a BTEC National in Engineering or equivalent. Mature learners may present a more varied profile of previous achievement that may include substantial work experience within the engineering environment.
Year One Units:
- Analytical Methods for Engineers
- Engineering Science
- Project Design, Implementation and Evaluation
- Design Engineering
Year Two Units:
- Mechanical Principles
- Materials Engineering
- Applications of Pneumatics and Hydraulics
- Advanced Computer Aided Drawing Techniques
The subject areas are assessed in a variety of ways including assignments, timed assessments and coursework.
From 2017 onwards, the HNC classes will include the ILM Level 2 Certificate in Leadership and Team Member Skills qualification that is aimed at improving the skills of the students when working in and amongst teams.
